What defines a set
A ring set is two or three rings designed to be worn together, typically an engagement ring with a matching band, or a pair of couples bands. The commercial appeal is obvious: it raises average order value and removes the customer hardest decision, which is matching two pieces themselves. The engineering challenge is equally obvious: the pieces must align, and alignment is a tolerance problem rather than a design opinion.
The tolerances that make or break a set
| Dimension | Required alignment | Why it fails |
|---|
| Band height at the contact point | Within 0.3 mm | A taller engagement band cuts into the wedding band |
| Shank curvature radius | Matched pair | Mismatched radius leaves a visible gap |
| Setting height above the finger | Stated on the specification sheet | A high setting prevents the band sitting flush |
| Ring size | Identical for both pieces | Sizing one piece independently breaks the alignment |
| Metal and plating | Same batch where possible | Different batches produce a visible colour difference |
| Stone grade for pairs | Matched to one grade | A visible tone shift between the two rings |
These six parameters are why we produce set components in the same production run. Casting the engagement ring and the band weeks apart is the most common reason a set arrives slightly mismatched, and it is entirely avoidable.
Set configurations that sell
- Solitaire plus plain band. The volume configuration. Lowest unit cost and highest sell-through.
- Halo plus contoured band. The band curves around the halo. Higher labour, better margin, and the most photographed configuration.
- Three-piece bridal set. Engagement ring plus two stackable bands, one on each side. Strong ticket size.
- Couples matching bands. Same design in two widths, typically 4 mm and 6 mm, in the same metal. Sold as a pair and produced as two SKUs.
- Eternity plus solitaire. Higher stone count on the band; sell the half-eternity version at the entry price point.
MOQ and pricing structure
A set is priced as its component pieces rather than as a single unit, so that a customer can buy either ring on its own. MOQ applies per component: 10 pieces per design for stock specifications, 30 pieces for a new silver design and 10 for a new gold design. Where the two components are produced in one run, we quote a combined tier price, normally 5% to 10% below the sum of the two standalone tiers, because the cast and plating batches are shared.
Quality checks specific to sets
- Both pieces are measured for contact-point height and verified against each other, not just against the drawing.
- Both pieces are sized on the same mandrel in the same session.
- Plating is done in a single batch to guarantee colour match.
- Stones are pulled as a matched group so tone is consistent between the engagement ring and the band.
- The assembled set is photographed together. That image is what sells the set online, and it also reveals alignment problems before packing.
Questions about Bridal Ring Sets
Are set components sold separately or only as a pair?
They are listed and priced separately so a customer can buy either piece alone, and we also quote a combined tier price for the set. In practice most buyers list the engagement ring as the primary product and the band as an optional add-on, which performs better than a single bundled SKU because it keeps the entry price visible.
How do you ensure two rings sit flush together?
Both components are produced in the same run, measured against each other at the contact point with a 0.3 mm tolerance, sized on the same mandrel, and plated in one batch so the colour matches. We photograph the assembled set before packing as the final verification. This is why we ask for set orders as a single order rather than two separate ones.
What is the MOQ for a couples band pair?
MOQ applies per component and per width. For two widths in the same design, typically 4 mm and 6 mm, the standard MOQ is 10 pieces per width for stock specifications, so 20 pieces per order minimum. A new design from your reference starts at 30 pieces per width in silver and 10 per width in gold.
Can the wedding band be contoured to fit around a halo?
Yes, and it should be. A contoured band is produced from the engagement ring actual profile rather than an approximation, so send the engagement ring specification or a physical sample. Contouring adds a small labour cost and about 3 to 5 working days, and it is the difference between a set that looks designed and a set that looks assembled.
